Bus at the stop
The number of electric buses in the Lahti region will increase through tendering.

Electric buses are becoming more common in public transport in the Lahti region – soon about half of LSL’s buses will be electric buses

The use of traditional diesel for public transport in the Lahti region will come to an end in the next few years. Lahti Region Transport still has an old long-term contract with an agreement to run buses on conventional diesel.

– LSL now has around a hundred cars, of which just over two dozen are electric buses. Half of the rest run on renewable fuels and half on conventional diesel,” says Lauri Jokinen, Head of Public Transport.

According to Jokinen, the electrification of transport will happen naturally, as long as transport contracts are long enough.

– Starting in August, there will be thirty electric buses. For the contract starting in August, six of the nine cars were required to be emission-free, but the operator offered all of them with electricity. From the summer of 2026, there will already be more than 50 electric buses thanks to future tenders, says Jokinen.
