The road sign is on the roadside at the edge of the field.

Vöyry is now recovering from last week’s Eurovision frenzy and thinking about how to reward KAJ.

The overwhelming KAJ interest has filled the booking calendars for airbnb places in Vöyry well into the summer.

– Tourism will take on a new dimension, says *Havulehto*, who was reached at a cleaning event for the quiz.

According to Havulehdo, interest in KAJ and Vöyr has come not only from Finland but also from abroad, including the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC in the UK and, of course, Sweden.

At the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, Norrvalla Sports Institute had people as far away and close.

Café in Rauma’s famous tourist attraction will open at least next summer – uncertainty about the future

Rauma’s water tower has been a traditional tourist attraction for decades. However, Rauma Vesi wants to focus on securing the water supply, and there is uncertainty about the future of the café business.

A café will be opened in Rauma’s water tower at least until next summer. The water company has agreed with young summer entrepreneurs to run the café and restaurant in the water tower from the end of May until the end of August.

A similar model has been used in previous summers. No permanent entrepreneur has been found for the café.

The last time there was a real long-term business activity on the premises was in 2023, but the entrepreneur left the game for financial reasons.

Water supply is the number one issue

The future of the Rauma Water Tower as a tourist destination has been compromised because the city’s waterworks does not consider the café as part of its core business. The plant has emphasized that its primary task is to ensure the functioning of water distribution.

Is mass tourism oppressive? How to travel responsibly and avoid congestion

The tourist laughs at the bridge with gondollers
Instead of laughter, a holiday can be tears and gnashing of teeth if there are lots of other people in the destination. Giorgio Casa photographed a laughing tourist in Venice in December 2022.

In some places, mass tourism causes so many problems that holidays are no longer a pleasure. Fortunately, you can do something about it yourself.

On Thursday, Yle reported on Fodor’s list of places not to visit this year, published online by travel guides and travel information company Fodor’s.

The items on the list were no surprise. Barcelona, Mallorca and the Canary Islands in Spain, for example, have hit the headlines as local housing costs have risen due to tourism and protests have been made against it.

According to Fodors, travelling in traffic jams, among reluctant locals and in littered nature does not make for a good holiday.

1. Travel to a big city in the off-season

Large cities in the world are popular travel destinations. However, almost all have their own season, which makes it difficult to avoid congestion.

Anja Nissi and Kaapo Kivirinta from Nurmijärvi report on their experiment on social media. Here’s a selfie they took at Hiekkasärkti.

According to Nissi, a housing experiment is a good way to find out what it would be like to live in another place. In three months, you can “really live a new life”.

– Of course, in a new location, all services have to be searched in a way from the beginning when they are not in the same way as their own home town. The new element was the sea, which opened from the windows of the rental apartment. We and Milla Dog did morning loops by the sea, Nissi says by phone after the trial time.
