Children’s books on loan from libraries in high demand
Children’s books on loan from libraries in high demand
Book lending by Finnish libraries grew by four per cent last year compared to the year before, according to the latest statistics on library activities.
The increase is explained by the rising borrowing rate for children’s literature. Children’s literature loans totalled 38 million last year.
Adult fiction remained at the level of the 20 million annual loan. Adult non-fiction was borrowed around 16 million times.
The borrowing of non-fiction books was slightly down, explained by a long decline in library acquisitions.

The all-time Finnish Eurovision Song Contest was a bit of a flop, with Erika and KAJ scoring rather modest points from the audience. In the end, Sweden came fourth and Finland eleventh.
One can wonder whether we were too optimistic about the success of the visa. Perhaps, but this year in particular shows that anything can happen at the Eurovision Song Contest. KAJ was the clear favourite, but the final result was far from what was expected.
Once again, one may ask if the jury has too much weight. Now it seems that there are too many power in the hands of a few people. The share of the jury could account for up to 25 %, which would make the audience’s voice better.
