Many were disappointed by the hit series White Lotus. But the incredible slowness of the new season was refreshing, writes cultural journalist Anton Vanha-Majamaa.

Boring. Slow. Why is nothing happening? Why should we care about these characters?

The third season of the hugely popular *White Lotus* series ended on Monday to mixed reviews. The season broke previous ratings records for the series, but the reception has been much more muted than before.

Dance House brings top international group to Helsinki – this is what a dance piece on climate crisis and extinction looks like

Dance House brings top international group to Helsinki – this is what a dance piece on climate crisis and extinction looks like

An international dance group is visiting Helsinki, and their work asks whether we have lost touch with ourselves.

The House of Dance’s own international programming is bearing fruit: a visiting theatre dedicated to dance brought the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT1), considered one of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies, to Helsinki.

In Helsinki, the group will present a three-part stage production *Figures in Extinction*, the latest part of which had its world premiere in Manchester in February.

Thanks to the Dance House, Helsinki has become an increasingly important part of the international dance scene, and the NDT’s visit is a good example of this.

The dancer begins the performance in an intense light that creates a mystical and intense atmosphere.
Figures in Extinction is a reminder of species that have disappeared from the planet.

The group led by Molnar is known for its high technical level, expression and artistic ambition. According to Molnar, maintaining quality requires the entire machine to commit to the group.

Yle’s Silja Viitala received the prestigious photojournalism award: “I might ask the Prime Minister about the dog”

Yle’s Silja Viitala received the prestigious photojournalism award: “I might ask the Prime Minister about the dog”

Silja Viitala was awarded the Patricia Seppälä Foundation Prize, especially for her work on politics. The subject matter is serious, but Viitala’s pictures often contain humour.

– There is warmth and humour in the gaze of Viitala and her camera, but the images also convey joy, disappointment and boredom. Viitala’s images are never distant,” says the explanatory statement.

Viitala has been photographing for Yle for five years, three of them on politics. He can often be spotted in the gallery of the Parliament. There, situations and locations are tightly framed and small things are big.

Viitala observes faces and facial expressions: even a frown can tell you a lot.

– The general thing for photographers is that people’s hands are interested. If someone touches a colleague on the shoulder in the plenary hall and says something, there is a small moment of humanity, says the award -winning photojournalist.
