LAB University of Applied Sciences starts training laboratory analysts. LUT University, on the other hand, will start building and civil engineering education.

The educational offerings of LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences are increasing.

The Government and the Ministry of Education and Culture have granted higher education institutions new educational responsibilities.

LAB University of Applied Sciences starts training laboratory analysts in both Lappeenranta and Lahti.

The training aims to respond to the growing need for expertise in the material development of industrial side streams and to promote the green transition.

You can apply for laboratory analyst training in the 2026 joint application. There are 30 study places in both Lappeenranta and Lahti.

According to LAB University of Applied Sciences, 20–30 laboratory analysts graduate from the capital region every year. It is not enough to meet the needs of companies operating elsewhere in Finland. There is a particular need in the forestry, food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

LUT starts a new education in Lahti

LUT University, on the other hand, will start building and civil engineering education. The new education will start at the Lahti campus in the fall of 2027. Then 30 students in the bachelor’s phase of construction and community engineering and 20 students in the master’s phase will start the education. In addition, a doctoral training program will be launched in Lahti.

The goal is that by 2035, 500–600 construction and community engineering students will be studying at the Lahti campus.

LUT is recruiting research and teaching staff for the new education. The goal is to hire around 50 new employees by 2035. New research laboratories may also be built on the Lahti campus.

The aim of research and education in construction and community engineering is to find new solutions for the needs of sustainable development and to produce innovations for use by companies.

The new building and community engineering education will be implemented in Lahti with external funding, which is around 12 million in total. The city of Lahti and all the municipalities of Päijät-Häme support the new education with around ten million euros.
