The Ranta-Kartano entertainment center lot is available again – the city is surveying actors interested in the place

Kinos Property Investment, which previously reserved the plot, is considering whether it should still start implementing the project. The plot reservation for the movie theater expired in the summer.

The city of Lahti plans to look for new operators who might be interested in the Ranta-Kartano entertainment center lot.

Kinos Property Investment company’s plot reservation expired in the summer, so the future construction of the place is open again. The company is currently considering whether it will, for its part, take the project forward again. So far, construction has been left behind first by the corona pandemic and then by the war in Ukraine and the year of rising construction costs.

According to Alho, the city should also look at the issue from the point of view of building sports facilities. One thing to be considered in the next few years will be whether to renovate the current city ice rink or whether a new multipurpose hall is needed in Lahti. However, the Ranta-Kartano plot does not necessarily lend itself to any use.

– That would also require private financing, which is not an easy equation. Ranta-Kartano is also a cramped place, Alho reflects.

The city is also waiting for a report to be completed soon (https://yle.fi/uutiset/3-12194969), which includes information on, among other things, which areas in Lahti are of interest to hoteliers.

One of the largest high schools in Finland started in Lahti – the large number of people and the lack of parking spaces make the students suspicious

Finland’s big high schools are getting bigger and smaller ones are getting smaller. In Lahti, a new high school started its semester on Wednesday, where more than 1,300 high school students study.

One of Finland’s largest high schools has started operations in Lahti. Tiirismaa and Kannas high schools have merged into Lahti high school Gaudia, where 1,310 high school students study. There are almost a hundred employees. On Wednesday morning, all students arrived at the campus in Paavola for the joint opening of the academic year on time and in good order.

– There are so many people. It makes me wonder if anyone will be found here, Nurminen thinks.

– It’s not very nice, but this will work, guesses Liedes.

Liukko is sad that there is no room for a car. There is no parking space in the high school grounds and the nearest parking place is for a fee.

Gaudia high school urges students to appeal to the decision-makers, so that Gaudia students also have the opportunity for cheap or free parking near their own high school.

– At least there are more teachers and facilities. The course selection is also better.

– Only parking spaces are a problem. We had 60 mopeds parked, while there are 20 spaces. There wasn’t even a parking space for cars and ATVs in the area of \u200b\u200bthe high school, laments Rosti.

The differentiation of high schools has continued throughout the 21st century

The average number of students in upper secondary schools is currently 280 students. The size of the ten largest upper secondary schools has grown from more than 500 to more than 650 students in 20 years. Meanwhile, the smallest tenth of upper secondary schools now have less than 50 students instead of the previous 90

There are few high schools with more than a thousand students. In addition to Lahti, there are also large high schools in the capital region and Jyväskylä.

In Värri’s opinion, it is unlikely that new high schools will be created in Finland in the next few years. A large high school is often created by merging two educational institutions, and in many localities the possible mergers have already been done.

– If it is possible in terms of facilities, large high schools will be created to a limited extent. But several high schools with 1,300 students will not be born in the next few years, says Värri.

The number of corona infections will increase after schools start

A student sick with corona should stay at home for a few days. Lahti city schools offer learning support if the absence is prolonged.

– Now that schools are starting, contacts will increase and it is likely that the number of corona infections will also increase, Nieminen states.

The current instruction is that a student infected with the corona virus stays at home for at least five days. The sick person should be relatively symptom-free two days before returning to school. Infection can be detected with a home test if even mild symptoms appear.

According to the review published on Tuesday, 28 patients with corona are being treated at Päijät-Häme Central Hospital. Some are in treatment precisely because of the corona disease, while some are in the hospital for other reasons and they also have a corona infection. There are no corona patients in intensive care.
