Kinos Property Investment company’s plot reservation expired in the summer, so the future construction of the place is open again. The company is currently considering whether it will, for its part, take the project forward again. So far, construction has been left behind first by the corona pandemic and then by the war in Ukraine and the year of rising construction costs.
According to Alho, the city should also look at the issue from the point of view of building sports facilities. One thing to be considered in the next few years will be whether to renovate the current city ice rink or whether a new multipurpose hall is needed in Lahti. However, the Ranta-Kartano plot does not necessarily lend itself to any use.
– That would also require private financing, which is not an easy equation. Ranta-Kartano is also a cramped place, Alho reflects.
