Suitcases were missing from several flights at Helsinki-Vantaa airport due to a technical problem on Saturday morning. Some of the morning flights were also delayed due to baggage congestion.
– About 1,400 bags have been left behind on Finnair flights, and a dozen of our flights were able to leave behind schedule, Palttala says.

The communication of the airport company Finavia says that baggage handling was congested due to a technical malfunction in the conveyor system.

Most of the bags were left on the plane
According to a tip received by Yle Uutisten, the suitcases were left behind, for example, on the flight from Helsinki-Vantaa to Kittilä in the morning.
– Unfortunately, the majority of the bags have been missing from the flight in question, confirms Finnair’s Palttala.
The A637 flight in question was originally scheduled to depart at 7:30 a.m., but was able to depart 23 minutes behind schedule.
– Presumably bags have also been left from foreign flights and from passengers who have changed flights in Helsinki, Palttala says.
Bags for the next flight
According to Palttala, the aim is to send the missing bags to the destination on the next flight. Some destinations have several flights per day, some only the next day.
– When luggage is delayed, we act in such a way that we try to send the customer instructions on what to do next by text message or email.
– The customer can also report lost luggage at the airport or on Finnair’s website, Palttala says.
According to Palttala, most of the bags will be sent from Helsinki-Vantaa during Saturday. Upon arrival, the bag is delivered to the address indicated by the passenger.
– I hope we can get the customers’ bags there as soon as possible.
