The Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters (SKTL) has awarded the 2023 translation awards to Marja Luoma, Sampsa Peltose and Kaijamari Sivilli.
The Mikael Agricola award and the J.A. Hollo’s award is Finland’s most significant translation award.
The Mikael Agricola award is given annually in recognition of an excellent translation of a significant work of fiction.
Marja Luoma and Sampsa Peltonen get it from the Finnish translation of the work *Miesten pämmäts* *secrets* (Gummerus).
In the opinion of the award committee, Marja Luoma and Sampsa Peltonen have translated the novel into \”beautiful, rich and truly lively Finnish\”. In addition, the reasons state that the Finnish language is effortless and engaging in the translation.
The Association of Finnish Translators and Interpreters awards the Mikael Agricola Award together with the Finnish Book Foundation.
The prize is 10,000 euros and has been awarded since 1957.
J. A. Hollo award to Kaijamari Sivill
The J. A. Hollo award is given in recognition of high-level non-fiction translation or long-standing meritorious non-fiction translation work.
According to the reasons for the award, Kaijamari Sivill’s translation is meritorious. It conveys \”sometimes very dense reflections precisely and naturally into the Finnish language\”.
The J. A. Hollo prize is awarded annually and is also worth 10,000 euros.
The Association of Finnish Translators and Interpreters shares the prize together with the Association of Finnish Critics and Finnish Nonfiction Writers.
