A model for the province is being developed under the leadership of Kalajoki library, where tips could be given about libraries. In total, nine libraries in the province were supported in their development projects.
The Kalajoki library is developing a model in cooperation with several other libraries in the province, with which residents could be given tips and advice about cultural services. The goal is to develop operating models for promoting cultural well-being in the same way as exercise advice is already given today.
The Regional Administrative Agency of Northern Finland has granted Kalajoki library a grant of 40,000 euros for the development of the project.
According to avi, the role of libraries as low-threshold cultural services and as an increaser of well-being has been identified and recognized. That’s why the Kalajoki project is trying to develop cultural counseling alongside the physical education counseling that already works in libraries.
Several libraries from municipalities of different sizes in Northern Ostrobothnia are involved in the project, and cooperation is also done with the welfare area.
In addition to Kalajoki, support was granted, for example, to the Oulu library to support the reading skills of adults and to the Tyrnävä library to develop library services for special groups.
