The availability of raw materials may decrease if strikes in trade and logistics take place. For example, Palmia, which operates in Helsinki, Vantaa and Hämeenlinna, always has something to offer.
Catering companies are preparing for reduced food availability during possible strikes. The service industry union has announced strikes in shops and the logistics sector, which may affect the food supply in schools, kindergartens and hospitals.
For example, Palmia, which offers meal services in Helsinki, Vantaa, Hämeenlinna and Riihimäki, has prepared so that ingredients can be found on customers’ plates from the company’s own warehouses for a few days. However, possible interruptions in the availability of raw materials can prompt new plans.
At Palmia, precautions also apply to special diets.
Päijät-Hämeen Ateriapalvelu, which also provides food in schools and kindergartens in Lahti, assures that children and young people will not go without food. The company is not dependent on one wholesaler, and the missing raw materials would be replaced by others.
– It can also be the case that the raw materials will not arrive in the model as ordered. Then we may have to resort to a completely different food. Among other things, porridges, juice soups and breads may appear more in the meal offer these days, says the company’s service director Maarit Tuomala-Nikkanen.
