Wagner was anti-Semitic and Hitler’s favorite composer. According to historian Hannu Salme, a European problem is condensed in Wagner.

The debate around Wagner continues more than 200 years after the composer’s birth. For many, the composer’s name brings to mind bad echoes, for example because of his anti-Semitism. Wagner spread hate speech, but on the other hand he also spoke for universal understanding.

The nesting of laughing gulls in Päijät-Häme is strongly concentrated in Lahti. The number of laughing gulls has decreased in Finland in recent decades, and the species is classified as endangered.

According to this year’s count, there are about 5,500 pairs of laughing gulls in Päijät-Hämee, two-thirds of which nest on the breakwater of Lahti harbor.

The breakwater in Lahti harbor, built 25 years ago, is located in a good location, sheltered from wild animals and close to eating places such as park lawns. According to Lammi, the laughing gulls of the Lahden colony look for their food within a radius of about 20 kilometers, for example in the fields of Luhtikylä in Orimattila. The species eats, among other things, fish and insects.

Hämälä’s hot air balloon companies are uniting – this is how the entrepreneurs strive to secure flights in the future

Linnan Pallo has made hot air balloon flights in places like Hämeenlinna.

Two dodgy hot air balloon airlines merge. Hämeenlinnalainen Oy Linnan Pallo Ab and Orimattila’s Kokemuslento Oy centralize the sale of hot air balloon flights and seat reservations on a joint website.

– The future of Linnan Pallo has been thought about for a long time. Let’s try to solve the future in such a way that we get continuity after I reduce flying myself, says sixty-year-old Luoma.

New pilots and new equipment

Olli Luoma looks at hot air balloon flights ten years ahead. The goal is to get new pilots and new equipment.

– The popularity of flights has pretty much stabilized at the pre-corona level, says Luoma.

During the coming winter, the hot air balloon companies will prepare for the next flight season by transferring all booking activities and ticket sales to Experience Flight.

Hot air is blown into the hot air balloon.
According to Olli Luoma, there is now quite a bit of competition in the industry, when one company closed a year and a half ago due to the retirement of the entrepreneur. The picture was taken in September 2021.

Linnan Pallo has flown 1,000-1,500 people every year. The number of passengers could increase to 1,500-2,000, Luoma calculates.

Flight operations are concentrated in Southern Finland

Operating for 27 years, Linnan Pallo has made public flights mainly in Helsinki, Tampere, Hämeenlinna, Lahti and Hyvinkää. In addition, private flights have been made in different parts of Southern Finland.

Founded in 2011, Kokemuslento has flown mainly in Lahti, Jyväskylä and Mäntsälä. The company has had private flights in different parts of southern and central Finland and in southern Ostrobothnia. In the future, flight operations will be concentrated in southern Finland.

Linnan Pallo’s CEO and pilot Olli Luoma will go to Jordan to make hot air balloon flights in September. From there, he will return in May to fly to Finland.
