The use of the Aleksanteri theater for cultural activities is governed by the valid site plan. The approximately 500-seat theater was completed on Helsingin Boulevard in 1879.

The Aleksanteri theater located on Helsinki Boulevard was sold for 1,850,000 euros to BME Property Oy, owned by the domestic BOA Group.

BOA Group wants to keep the theater, among other things, in cultural use in the future.

Aleksanteri’s theater has been in extensive cultural use throughout its history. In 1919, the Aleksanteri theater was transferred to the Finnish Opera. Since then, the Finnish Opera was named the National Opera and Ballet, which operated in the premises until 1993.

The Aleksanteri theater organizes e.g. theater, dance, music and circus performances, and there are also many training activities in the premises. In the future, the new owner will be responsible for the development of the theater’s operation and building.

The preservation of the architectural historical values of the Aleksanteri Theater, which was completed in 1879, has been ensured by protection, and the use of the property for cultural activities is guided by the current site plan.

The theater has three floors, a hall with about 500 seats, a technically fully equipped stage and restaurant service in the audience warm rooms. The building has seven training halls and office space.

_The matter was corrected on 25.8. 4:46 p.m.: We told you earlier that the National Opera would have operated in the premises of the Aleksanteri Theater from 1953-1993. It was corrected that the building was used by the Finnish Opera in 1919, and then the National Opera and Ballet operated in the building until 1993._
