Corona pandemic deserted the Great Wall of China – tourist guide who hosted Finns: ‘I lost almost all my income’

Tourism is an important source of income in China, but the Chinese leadership has stifled it with its interest rate discipline. For almost three years, Chinese people have been unable to travel abroad and foreign tourists have been unable to travel to China. The party conference is expected to give a hint of China’s opening up.

He is one of many who have been left without a job in the sector since the pandemic began. Tourism is in its lifeblood. The reason is China’s strict so-called “dynamic zero tolerance”. This means that China tries to staple every single case of interest rate shocks before it releases society from interest rate restrictions.

Tourist guide Wei Yong has felt it keenly.

– I lost almost all my income,” he says of the first year of the interest rate pandemic.

The controversial Kariniemi fitness stairs will be completed before winter, but fitness enthusiasts will probably not be able to sweat it out until spring

The construction of the stairs was delayed by a year and a half due to complaints. While efforts have been made to take into account the natural values, the location of the fitness stairs in particular has been criticised by opponents of the project.

In Lahti, the Kariniemi fitness and landscape stairs are being erected at a good pace. Construction on Kariniemenmäki started in early September and the first phase is now complete.

When completed, the 120-metre-long, two-and-a-half-metre-wide staircase will zigzag up the slope in twenty-metre sections. There will be four landings, with seating. The steps are made of dark brown wood, the handrails of brownish metal. A strip of light will be placed at the bottom of the handrails.

An autumn landscape, on the left a work of art resembling a frame made of brown wood, on the right a construction site fence and a gray booth, inside it, part of the brown wooden stairs can be seen in the background.
Fitness and landscape stairs will be built on the Lahti Harbour Rail.
