Summer 2022 brought almost a million tourists to Hämeenlinna, says Linnan Kehitys.

Hämeenlinna’s events last summer brought more tourists and euros to the city than in the previous year. Hämeenlinna was visited by almost one million tourists during the summer. Total tourism revenue amounted to EUR 105 million, says Linnan Kehitys.

Around a third of visitors to Hämeenlinna were day visitors, who also spent relatively the most money in the city. The average tourism income was around €107 per person, which was just under €20 more than in summer 2021.

Tourists come from Southern Finland

A significant proportion of the tourists coming to Hämeenlinna come from the capital region and the surrounding large cities and municipalities in Southern Finland.

Real-time information on summer tourism in Hämeenlinna was collected for the second time using a special Salmi Platform analytics tool.

The calculation of summer visitors was helped by Telia’s operator data, from which it was possible to remove commuting traffic and local shopping traffic. In addition to the people of Hämeenlinna, the people of Hattula and Janakkala are also counted as locals.

The survey, on the other hand, was used to find out, among other things, how tourists spend money.

According to the survey, tourists’ overall satisfaction rose slightly from the previous summer. The tourists gave Hämeenlinna a good grade of 8.25 as a school rating.

Beauty, cleanliness and warm service garnered praise, among other things. The shops’ short opening hours, on the other hand, caused the most dissatisfaction.
