All municipalities have considered reducing the energy consumption of swimming pools, but so far saunas have not been installed anywhere.
You can still take a sauna in Päijät-Häme’s swimming halls. The energy consumption of swimming pools has been weighed in the municipalities due to the energy crisis, and the sauna is the most reasonable savings target in them, because it is more difficult to get benefits from the heating and ventilation of the pool water.
For example, Lahti keeps all the heaters on for the time being, but only two of the four saunas are in use in Hollola’s swimming hall. In Hollola, it has also been decided to keep the swimming pool closed on four weekdays to save hot water and electricity.
As usual, two steam saunas and two regular saunas are available in the Heinola swimming pool. In Orimattila, two of the four saunas are closed, but that is largely due to the lack of users.
Padasjoki, Kärkölä and Sysmä have so far not taken steps to reduce energy consumption in their swimming pools, but cost-saving measures are being considered.
The municipality of Sysmä reports that the deliberations have featured, for example, a model in which customers would be rewarded with a season ticket discount if they did not take a sauna at home. The heater could also be turned off one day.
