The work named Siina sculpture shows Hagman as a child.
Kälviä’s Martas association collected 10,000 euros. Summa has commissioned a sculpture from sculptor Kaija Kontulainen.
The artwork will be announced next summer in the yard of Hagman’s birthplace in Kälviä in Central Ostrobothnia. At that time, it will be 170 years since his birth.
The work named Siina sculpture shows Hagman as a child. He was born in Kälviä in 1853 and lived there for his first 12 years.
Hagman was a professor, the founder of the Martta organization and the Naisasialiitto Union, and one of the world’s first female parliamentarians.
He was also a respected pedagogue, equality activist and promoter of Finnish-language education.
The list of donors will be announced at the unveiling party of the sculpture. Kälviä’s Martas, Lucina’s Ystävät, LC Kälviä and LC Kälviä/Lucina have been working in the background groups of the project for two years.
