Mikke ry was founded in 1999. Its purpose was to increase the cooperation of downtown companies and act as an enabler for various events and projects.
The Mikkeli urban development association Mikke ry is closing its operations.
The association’s annual meeting decided that the association will be dissolved in January. The decision was unanimous. The reason is the lack of resources.
The most visible sign of the association’s existence is Mikkelin Toriparkki, the plans of which were initiated by the association. The association has also been setting up a Christmas market, a Midsummer bonfire in the harbor and it also brought palm trees to the city, which attracted wide attention.
Mikkeli’s city center is the seventh liveliest in the country
In the livability index comparison of consulting company Ramboll, the 20 most lively city centers were named, of which the top six are cities clearly larger than Mikkeli. Mikkeli is therefore in first place among the smaller cities. There are also several larger cities behind Mikkeli in the livability list.
The 15-minute model was used in the comparison, i.e. we measured how many services and stimulations there are within a 15-minute walk. This is how the proximity and versatility of everyday services and activities are measured.
Mikke ry is also partly to thank for this.
