Wild boars rarely stray into urban areas. They usually avoid humans, but an injured wild boar can be dangerous.
– A strange-looking creature came from the theater parking lot in the center. We first looked to see if it was a dog or a bear, says Widgren.
When the animal walked in front of the car, the couple recognized it as a wild boar.
– It continued across the road. We turned back for a moment and got a couple of fragile pictures of it, says Widgren.
The couple stayed in the car and did not go to chase the wild boar.
– I got the impression that it could be dangerous for humans.
Widgren called a hunting friend about the sighting, who urged him to report the sighting to the emergency center.
The police patrol went to look for the wild boar, but no further observations were made.
When injured, a wild boar can be dangerous
– A wild boar can wander along suitable forest strips and end up in a populated area. Then it may run around in a panic while looking for a way out, says Kervinen.
According to Kervinen, the population of wild boars in Pohjois Savo is rare, and wild boars are rarely encountered even in the forest.\n – It is a timid animal that hears and smells a person from afar.
Encountering a healthy wild boar is unlikely, and usually the encounter ends with the pig running away. For example, an animal injured in traffic can instead be very dangerous.
– An injured wild boar can attack you. The boar has big fangs that can cause a lot of damage, says Kervinen.
