In the future, the forest will be allowed to live and develop in its own peace and quiet and will provide a refuge for many endangered species.
A Blue Forest protected forest is being created in the municipality of Lope in Kanta-Häme. The Natural Heritage Foundation has purchased 50 hectares of forest from the city of Vantaa. The purchase documents were signed on Tuesday 11 October and the purchase price is EUR 340 000.
Under the ownership of the Foundation, the forest will be protected and given the name Blue Forest. The area, which consists of three plots, is a mixed forest with a diversity of mature aspen and spruce trees. The forest is home to species such as the chalk squirrel and the white-tailed godwit. A river, which is part of the otter’s territory, flows through the area.
In the future, the forest will be allowed to live and develop in its own peace and quiet and will provide a refuge for many endangered species.
The large forest sale was realized with the help of an effective conservation campaign, which the Natural Heritage Foundation launched in the spring of 2022 together with the Von Hertzen Brothers band.
The campaign was inspired by the band’s eighth album, Red Alert in the Blue Forest. In addition, several well-known artists were involved in the fundraising. Funds for the conservation forest were collected through auctions.
– The Blue Forest is protected for all of us, the brothers remind.
