In 2021, about 60 notifications were received for the Saimaa deep waterway networks, according to the Finnish Transport Agency. Fish traps placed on the fairway can interfere with the navigation of vessels or, in the worst case, even cause accidents.
Every week, fish traps are found in the deep waterways of Lake Saimaa, which can interfere with the navigation of vessels or even cause accidents. This is reported by the Finnish Fairway Agency.
Last year, there were around 60 notifications of deep-water nets on the Saimaa river. The Finnish Fairways Agency reminds that obstacles such as nets or catwalks that make it difficult to use the fairway must not be placed on it.
Bottom nets are also only allowed if they are deep enough and their markings are outside the fairway.
The problem is particularly serious for large vessels that cannot dodge nets outside the deep channel. Hooks can damage the vessel when they get stuck in the propeller, cause dangerous situations and large financial losses.
According to the Norwegian Railways Agency, in the event of overrunning a gear set in the wrong or wrong place or wrongly marked, the responsibility for compensation rests with the person setting the gear.
