The film is a kind of fantasy about a super-celebrity of his time, about whom society was divided.
According to Paavilainen, in the early days of the film, it felt like everyone had memories of Kika.
He also remembers Kika as a super celebrity from his childhood, whose energetic performance would nail even a small child to the TV screen. Later, at the Theatre Academy, Paavilainen partied to Kika’s tune with his friends.
– The way a woman enjoys and is allowed to enjoy her body felt like an oasis in that other era.
– Maybe you could say that this is Impression or a fantasy about Kika, but I wanted to bring him out as a whole person. I also wanted to bring that extraordinary joy into the film and how it can take its toll if you have a lot of energy.
Kikka became public at a time when the image of women was narrower than today and society was very different. There was no internet, no social media, the printed word was really heavy and there were only two TV channels.
– Kikka was an exceptional pioneer in many ways, which is a versatile and delicious research object in retrospect. So not only Kikka himself, but the society around him.
At the time of Kika, you couldn’t get into the public eye from your own couch, and you couldn’t become a singer except through a recording contract. The reception of the general public could also be very different.
– He received an incredible amount of fan letters, but at the gigs people yelled and made really ugly comments, especially in the end. That kind of thing has probably now moved to the lower reaches of the internet.
The film has already been shown at the invited guest evening, so the first comments have already been received. Among other things, there has been good feedback from Kika’s relatives. Still, the reaction of the general public naturally excites the director.
– The film is only ready when the viewer watches it.
