The Norwegian government proposes 25 million kroner in next year’s state budget for measures to prevent humpback salmon, reports NRK. That is 10 million kroner more than this year.

The humpback salmon expert group of the Norwegian Environment Agency is preparing a report on proposed measures that have been adapted to different water bodies. Another large humpback salmon migration has been predicted for next summer, for example to Tenojoki and its tributaries.
Humpback salmon is an alien species that has spread westward from Russia. It is a threat to Atlantic salmon and river ecosystems.
– We expect a new record in the number of humpback salmon in the water bodies next year, and our prevention measures will determine whether we can keep the number of humpback salmon low in the coming years, says Eide.
