A route connecting the villages of Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo has been completed in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.

The trail, which can be traveled by footpaths or by bike, was a joint project of Kolar Municipality and Metsähallitus Luontoservicevälve, which received funding from the EU’s Rural Development Fund. The total cost estimate of the project is 389,000 euros, of which the municipality and Metsähallitus pay a total of 30 percent.

For the construction of the easy-to-pass route, stone ash and steel grating have been used, which, according to Metsähallitus, are long-lasting materials.

With the new route, you can make longer day trips to the Äkäslompolo area from Ylläsjärvi. If you wish, you can climb the highest slopes of the fells along the route.
