The church tax of the Lahti parish association has remained at 1.5 percent for decades.
Lahti Parish Association is considering calculating the church tax.
The Church Council proposes that the church tax be reduced to 1.45 percent from the beginning of next year. Now the church tax rate is 1.50. The calculation of the church tax is justified by the tax revenue reform coming into effect next year.
Church tax revenues are estimated to increase next year if the church tax is not calculated. Nationally, tax revenues have been calculated to increase by 54 million euros.
The reason is that the tax revenue reform will significantly increase state income tax, while church and municipal tax will be subject to even fewer deductions. It would mean that parish taxpayers would pay even more church taxes.
The Ministry of Finance has calculated that the downsizing pressure in the Lahti Parish Association is 0.05 percentage points. The church tax has remained at the current level in Lahti since the 1980s. The church council decides on the size of the church tax.
