Raahe starts to train renovators of old houses

Raahe Torinranta
Raahe has preserved many old wooden buildings and also offers many sites for renovation and house restoration.

Training leading to a professional qualification in renovation is launched in Raahe. The training at the Brahe Training Centre will start in mid-August.

A vocational qualification in building construction, with a focus on renovation, gives you the skills to work on renovating ageing buildings.

There is also a need for training in Raahe’s old wooden house area, where around 150 wooden houses and a couple of hundred outbuildings are protected. The area is considered one of the best preserved wooden house areas in Finland.

Due to the specificities of the building stock in the area, the training offered in Brahe also includes an initial survey and planning of the restoration site. It will broaden the graduates’ understanding of the requirements and objectives for the restoration of buildings of cultural and historical interest.

The training is carried out as practical work exercises at repair construction sites and as complementary theory studies. The degree is suitable for people who have a previous bachelor’s degree in building construction, a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on skills in restoration in the art industry, or long experience in building construction.

It is also possible to complete individual parts of the degree.
