Records were set in Kainuu’s accommodation sales in July, when registered accommodation sales were 5.9 million euros.

It is the best result for July in the entire five-year monitoring period. There was an increase in sales of 410,000 euros compared to last July, even though the number of tourists who arrived in Kainuus was less than the previous year.

Tourists also headed more often to big cities and other destinations, such as Kalajoki.

Although there were fewer travelers than the previous year, the 23 percent increase in the average room price in registered accommodation establishments had an effect on sales growth. The average price of the night was 120 euros, the amount was also the highest during the entire five-year monitoring period.

The room occupancy rate was 64.6 percent, which is almost as good as in March and even higher for July than before the pandemic.

January-July sales were 29.2 million euros and they increased by 4.4 million euros from the previous year.

Sotkamo still had the fourth highest number of overnight stays in Finland between January and July 2022.
