Flows are expected to peak at the end of May in most water bodies in Lapland.

The cold weather of the next few days will slow down the floods in Lapland, says the Ely Center of Lapland.

Dry and colder weather than usual has been predicted for the current week, which slows down the melting of snow and the growth of flood flows. However, water levels are rising in the rivers of Southern and Central Lapland.

In Simojoki, Tornionjoki and the lower part of Ounasjoki, the water level has risen from half a meter to a meter compared to the beginning of winter. Elsewhere, the water level has risen only slightly.

Flows are expected to peak at the end of May in most water bodies in Lapland. The development of the temperature during the melting season and the rains have a significant impact on how the floods will occur.

Officials will hold the next flood meeting on May 11.
