The Aleksanterinkatu Center will not receive a conservation designation – chairman of the board: \”An exceptionally miserable building\”

Aleksanterinkatu in Lahti with its buildings belongs to the provincially valuable built environment. The central building is on the left side of the Seurahuone in the picture.

The Lahti Urban Environment Board decided that some of the offices can be turned into residential buildings.

Lahti Keskustalo on Aleksanterinkatu across from Soko does not receive a conservation label.

The urban environment board removed the conservation designation from the site plan change, which was intended to preserve the clean style building of its era. The change in the site plan enables 30 percent of the building’s current building right to be used for residential purposes.

The 7th floor of the central building has already been approved for construction, and the residential apartments of the former hotel Mustan Kissa have been converted to residential use with an exception permit on the Vapaudenkatu side.

– The central building is an exceptionally miserable building. This kind of concrete brutalism of the 60s and 70s was not worth protecting in such a central location, says McCarron.

The central building was completed in 1968 in one of Lahti’s oldest business blocks.
