Jam makers, i.e. those who participate in jams, draw inspiration from the drawings made by children. They can be returned to the library until May 5.

The main library of Kajaani organizes 11.–13. May Library Jams, where the intention is to create a new video game.

Game jams are an event where video games are designed and developed on a fast schedule. They typically last from 24 to 72 hours. Participation does not require previous experience – interest in the topic is the most important thing.

The special feature of the event is that the jammers, i.e. the participants in the jams, draw inspiration from the drawings made by the children. You can take them to the library’s children’s section in the orange box until Friday, May 5.

– Usually, jams are based on a theme, such as a phrase, a phrase or, for example, a book. At least I haven’t come across before that specifically children’s drawings are used in this form. I think we are ecos, Kupiainen laughs.

In drawings, only imagination is the limit. If there is something resembling a character in the drawing, it will probably end up as a character in the game, and the landscape may become the background scenery in the game, Kupiainen describes.

The actual game work begins on May 11 at 5 p.m., when the children’s drawings are taken out of the box and scanned into the computer.

– Let’s see what kind of interpretations our team and participants come up with with the children’s drawings. I’m looking forward to something really cool out of it.

Jamit is organized by IGDA Kajaani in cooperation

According to Kupiainen, the jams want to bring the gaming industry and its cultural activities to the fore.

– More than 3,000 people work in this field in Finland. In the financial news, it looks good when Supercell and others bring a lot of income to Finland, but you don’t necessarily stop to think that this could be a young person’s future profession. We want to enable people to have the first contact surface with it.

*The topic can be discussed on April 28 until 11 pm.*
