You can also admire the scenery at this art museum – Raasepori has a new jewel in the crown

The Chappe Museum of Contemporary Art is ready. It is likely to strengthen the position of Tammisaari in Raasepori as a tourist destination. The museum was built with money from a genetics researcher.

The old town of Tammisaari has perhaps never looked so fascinating as it does now, when you can admire it from the tall windows of the fire-engine art museum above the low-rise buildings.

The Chappe Museum of Contemporary Art is ready, and Raasepori can be proud of its new tourist destination.

– We have an insanely beautiful museum building, which is a work of art in itself. It combines the surrounding historic environment with new modern architecture,” says Patokorpi.

Tammisaari on the map!

It is about the same distance from Raasepori to Turku and Helsinki. Tammisaari remains by Hanko road.

Museum director Patokorpi hopes that residents of the capital region will find their way to Chappe, as most of the visitors to art museums live in the capital region.

– There are quite a few art museums between Turku and Helsinki. Chappe fills such a void in that.

The museum’s season is summer, and it is also reflected in the exhibitions. The museum director wants to make Chappe a lively place even during the off-season. He envisions it as the \”living room\” of the locals.

In the lobby of the Chape, guests are greeted by Petri Vainio’s Spegling, a work featuring more than 30 000 stainless steel lamellae.

Chappe is part of the courtyard, which includes the Raasepor museum and the Elverket art gallery. From the museum in Raasepori you can get to Chappe and vice versa

– Community spirit is really important to us. We also invest in the off-season and then offer content especially to locals, Patokorpi says.

Chappe will inevitably change Tammisaari’s status as a tourist destination.

– I believe that Chappe will put Raasepori and Tammisaari on the map culturally in a completely new way. And open people’s eyes. Tammisaari is an absolutely fantastic place.

A response to the dystopia

Chappe opens with three exhibitions, one of which focuses on climate art.

It shows the cooperation of different fields. In addition to visual artists, there will be designers, a bio designer, a wild food chef and a musician.

The artists of the exhibition present alternative and constructive perspectives on the often dystopian works of climate art, which paint horror pictures of the future.

The planning of the exhibition started a couple of years ago.

– At that time, I drew attention to how much dystopian images are thrown in front of viewers in climate art.

Chappe now and in the future will also present Albert de la Chapelle’s art collection. Another of the opening exhibitions is wrapped around a landscape painting from the 1870s. Four local artists comment on this piece from the collection with their own works.

The third of the exhibitions tells about the life of Albert de la Chapelle and the birth of the art museum Chappe.

The museum’s repertoire, which presents contemporary art, will focus on cooperation with artists from the Baltic Sea region in the future. Locality can also be seen from time to time in exhibitions.

– The purpose is to present artists who are not big names yet, but are breaking through, Hovi states.
