Kaustinen supports the Folk Arts Centre’s finances with a large amount.

On Wednesday, the municipal council decided to grant a capital loan of 250,000 euros for the center’s difficult financial situation. The predicament has been deepened by the general rise in prices and energy costs, as well as the event market, which has been silenced by the pandemic. The facilities also need renovation.

There was a discussion about support, and a negative position about giving money was also heard.

The show was unprofitable. Mäkelä left a dissenting opinion on the matter.

The municipality of Kaustinen and the Development Company own the center almost entirely. The center’s balance is based on a capital loan of 200,000 euros previously granted by the municipality.

According to last year’s financial statements, the company also has accounts payable to the municipal group company of around 100,000 euros.

The municipality has supported the center’s finances before in the past 15 years.

The Folk Arts Center was designed by architect Raine Mahlamäki and its main hall is excavated inside the rock. The center was completed in 1997.
