Vaasa City Orchestra performs this week at the university and swimming pool, among other venues

Vaasa City Orchestra
The Vaasa City Orchestra gives a concert at Vaasa Town Hall.

The orchestra has been touring the public more visibly for a couple of years now, says Eva Hillebrandt, orchestra coordinator. A continuation of the tour is planned for late summer or autumn.

The Vaasa City Orchestra is touring the city this week, playing short and free music events all over the city.

The musicians perform at universities, restaurants and swimming pools.

– The idea is, of course, to give the orchestra visibility, but also to make people happy with our music and to bring music to people who might not come to our concerts.

The city orchestra’s audience work week begins on Tuesday at the University of Vaasa, where the string quintet plays film music from the films Harry Potter, James Bond and Schindler’s List, starting at 9:15 a.m.

On the same day, the string trio will perform a lunch concert at the restaurant Loftet, where they will play two half-hour pieces from 12 and 2 p.m.

– We mainly play music from the lighter side. Perhaps it is more approachable for the public as well.

Brass players play in the swimming pool

On Thursday, the wind quartet will perform at Bock’s Corner from 11:15 and 12:15, playing half-hours of entertainment music by the Beatles, among other things.

On Thursday evening, the city orchestra will perform at the candlelit swimming event, which has already become a tradition, in the Vaasa swimming pool. The brass quintet plays atmospheric music with a percussionist on Thursdays at 19:15 and 20:00.

The environment is interesting for musicians.

– There are bound to be sweaty spots. I’ve been up there where they play and it’s really warm and humid. However, for musicians, the swimming hall has great acoustics, so it’s definitely nice to play there.

The brass players were chosen to perform in the swimming hall precisely because of the conditions.

– You can’t take Violins or Woodwinds there because they suffer from it. Brass instruments do not suffer so much from this kind of moisture.

On Friday, the brass quintet will play music in the lobby of Vaasa Central Hospital at 10:30 and 11:30. The week ends with the After work music moment held at restaurant Venni at 4:30 p.m.

The events are free of charge, except for candlelight swimming, which requires an entrance fee according to the price list of the swimming hall.

Next time, the orchestra plans to tour places in the same way in late summer and autumn.
