Visitors have often failed to empty water containers and clean up ashes. Metsähallitus believes that signposts are a better reminder of how to keep places tidy than double-entry books.
The traditional double bookings in deserted and reserved cabins will be a thing of the past next summer in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park and Tunturi-Lap. They will be replaced by signboards outside the cabins.
The new practice is necessary because visitors did not always follow the instructions written in the tobacco book.
The signs, like the ones in the dovecotes, tell you the basics, such as cleaning up the desert, emptying the water containers and clearing the ashes.
Next summer, only the guest book will be left on the tables of Tupi.
– You should always write your name on it and preferably also where you are going next. The guestbook is a big help in searching for missing people, says Karinen.
Tent books will be replaced with signs for the time being only in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. They have already been put into use in Hannukuru, Tappuri and Pyhäkero. The signs for Käsivarre’s wilderness areas will come later this year.
