The Päijät-Häme welfare association became the Päijät-Häme welfare area as a result of the social security reform implemented at the turn of the year.

The spending provision for salary harmonization decided last autumn brought an additional bill of 20 million euros to the municipalities.

Using the services of the Päijät-Häme welfare association cost its member municipalities a good 743 million euros last year.

Compared to 2021, expenses increased by around 77 million euros.

In the original budget, provision had been made for an increase in expenses, but the municipalities’ final payment shares were increased especially by the 20 million reserved for salary harmonization last fall.

The significant state aid allocated to the treatment of Corona was reduced by almost half from the previous year.

More than half of the contributions were used for basic services for the municipalities and a good third for specialized hospital care.

The share of emergency services was around five percent and first care less than two percent. Environmental health care used less than half a percent of the municipalities’ contributions.

For example, in 2022 Lahti paid about 34 million euros more to the welfare area than the previous year, and Orimattila 39 million euros.
