Young athletes of winter sports fill Salpausselkä – the Hopesompa finals will be held in Lahti for the first time

The slopes of Salpausselkä are bustling this weekend, when hundreds of young skiers fight for superiority in the Hopesompa final competition.

Thousands of Hopesompa competition guests are expected at the sports center this weekend.

The final competitions of cross-country skiing, ski jumping and the combined Hopesompa will gather several hundred young athletes at the Lahti sports center on the weekend.

Just under 800 young athletes have registered for Lahti, but some of them ski on several trips, so there are about 1,100 starts in cross-country skiing events.

The most participants are in the 14-year-old girls’ sprint, about 150. In the Silver Somma, the age range of competitors is 10–16 years. Lahten

2,500 visitors are expected to arrive at the sports center area to watch the competitions starting on Friday.

Last winter, the Hopesompa finals were organized in Taivalkoski. The event has not been organized in Lahti before.
