Brittihovi is supposed to celebrate the coronation of its new king in May with a magnificent concert. However, the organizers have had trouble getting first-rate pop stars on the list of performers.
However, Charles’ actual coronation will not be celebrated until May of this year. The official part will be held in Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May 2023 – the same places where the British coronation has been held since 1066.
The last time a coronation was celebrated was in 1953, when Elizabeth II became queen.
Hovi has now wanted to update the festivities to modern times: for example, the festive divine service lasts about an hour this time, while it lasted more than three in Charles’s mother’s time. In addition, the coronation is celebrated for many days with concerts, parades and charity events.
The king has commissioned twelve new works by contemporary British composers for the actual coronation.
The program of the official part is spectacular and valuable, but there have been problems with the arrangements for the folk festival.
A top concert without top performers
The coronation celebrations are supposed to culminate on Sunday with a big coronation luncheon and the following giant concert.
A 74-member orchestra has been assembled for the concert organized in the grounds of Windsor Castle. According to Hov’s press release, it presents interpretations of musical favorites alongside the world’s greatest entertainers and best dancers.
A special coronation choir has also been assembled for the concert, which has recruited singers from refugee choirs, health care choirs, singing groups for the hearing impaired, and choirs representing sexual and gender minorities.
According to the palace, the goal is to offer a festive mood to the entire nation.
The BBC televised the concert live. In addition, 10,000 free tickets have been given away for the occasion in a national lottery – a surprisingly democratic feat in a monarchy.
However, towards the end of the day, the arrangements for the big national celebration have stopped. The guard of \”the world’s greatest entertainers\” promised by Hovi does not look very impressive so far.
According to numerous international sources, several top pop stars have announced that they cannot or will not perform at the concert, even though they have been invited.
Hovi had to be disappointed in his hopes for the return of the Spice Girls as well. After lengthy negotiations, the band members declined the honor.
After all, the rest of the band could be recruited.
The mass exodus of upper-caste artists from the coronation celebrations has drawn plenty of direct ridicule, especially in the British press.
\”*Nobody wants to perform at King Charles’s Big Party*\ the headlines declare.
