The same millionaire previously financed a major advertising campaign to attract Helsinki residents to move to Lahti. This was motivated by a love for the old hometown.
– In Finland, ten per cent of health care costs are due to obesity. When weight is lost, it is easier for the state to cope with the costs of social health care. At the same time, Ugandans and refugee youths who have arrived in the country will be helped to get an education. Perhaps my biggest idea of all is to build community. When you lose weight together with others, loneliness is reduced,” says Jukko.
The charity campaign has also met with opposition. He has received messages accusing him of bullying the people of Lahti. He denies that his campaigns are about any such thing. He is saddened by the criticism.
– The Florida campaign made me reconnect with my old hometown, and that’s why I wanted to do this weight loss campaign there,” she explains.
Jukko has set aside three million euros for the campaign, but he would be satisfied if, say, a third of the money is spent. Those participating in the campaign can go to the parishes participating in the campaign to be weighed, and a new weighing would be done in May-June. According to the separation, Jukko pays the Church’s foreign aid. Jukko encourages you to gather a group with whom you can go jogging.
– Losing weight alone is often difficult, and it’s not worth trying if your life situation is stressful. I myself have tried to change my life when I was stressed, and it didn’t work.
Etelä-Suomen Sanomat was the first to report on the campaign.
