The fickle weather in early winter will not affect the organisation of major skiing events in Lahti. The artificial snow tracks can certainly withstand even mild winter weather.
– The snowfalls of the last few days were a welcome addition, and next weekend’s Finlandia skiing is a guaranteed success. There are more than 50 kilometres of good trails,” Ahokas assures.
The situation is bad in places on fitness tracks made of natural snow, but racing tracks are a different matter. Trails made on artificial snow can withstand a week’s worth of rain. Of course, the longer the conditions last, the greater the workload.
– No slopes can stay in good condition by themselves, but it requires a lot of work and expertise, which fortunately Lahti has.
The Salpausselkä races are being held exceptionally late this year, at the end of March. The weather can take any turn before then.
– It is an exceptional event also because this year the 100-year history of the Salpausselkä Games is celebrated. However, medals will certainly be awarded on these tracks, reassures Ahokas.
