With teleworking, the share of commuting is still lower than before the interest rate pandemic.
The pedestrian pedal is the most superior way to get around Helsinki.
The share of walking is particularly pronounced in the city centre. The next most frequent mode of travel was by car, the third most by bus and the fourth most by bicycle.
The survey data was collected through telephone interviews in September-October 2022 and the sample represents Helsinki residents aged 7-79.
A total of 1,812,625 trips were made during the study.
The share of bus trips is the same as in 2021, and is still clearly lower than before the corona pandemic. However, the share of public transport was greater than the share of trips made by private cars, which in turn decreased slightly from the previous year.
Bicycles were ridden largely the same as in 2021.
The share of business trips remained almost at the same level compared to the previous year. It grew by one percentage point. It seems that after the corona pandemic, remote work has become a well-established part of working life. Thus, the proportion of business trips is expected to be lower in the near future than before the corona era.
The Helsinki residents’ movement habits 2022 report also shows that electric scooters have clearly risen as a form of movement. Throughout the city, their popularity is as great as that of taxis, and in the inner city the popularity has even overtaken the use of taxis.
In the inner city during the review period, 5,000 trips were made on electric scooters, while the corresponding figure was 3,000 by taxis.
