The animal was caught and killed in December. A DNA test on the animal has now been completed.

According to the Natural Resources Institute Finland, the dog animal captured in Tuupovaara, North Karelia, in November 2022 was half wolf and half dog. This was revealed by a DNA test taken from the animal.

The animal was captured and first taken to a lost and found zoo. The animal was put down in early December by a decision of the control veterinarian.

A DNA sample was taken from the animal, as it was not possible to tell from its appearance whether it was a dog or a wolf.

– The DNA analysis showed that the captured individual was a cross between two canines, which, together with the collar, suggests that it is a domesticated canine, Valtonen says.

The test also found out whether the animal is related to the canine wolves found in Lappeenranta’s Uplands in 2022. According to the test, this animal was not related to them.
