Päijät-Häme wants to be a forerunner in sustainable food production – cooperation with higher education institutions to promote the goal

The new project will combine the expertise of the region’s food entrepreneurs and experts from two universities.

Päijät-Hämne aims to become a forerunner in sustainable food through cooperation with universities.

The new project brings together food entrepreneurs from the region and experts in food and innovation research from the University of Helsinki and LUT University.

The aim is to bring new, more sustainable and healthy products and services to the market.

– LUT University has come to Lahti and is expanding all the time. In addition to this, the University of Helsinki is also interested in intensifying cooperation with Lahti, for example, in agriculture and forestry. It may be due, among other things, to the fact that Fazer is expanding its own operations here.

Prass also mentions the food laboratory of the LAB University of Applied Sciences, which is under construction and will probably be completed at the beginning of 2024.

The year-long pilot project is connected to the Nature Step to Health program, which combines the environmental and health goals of the region.
