The exact completion time of the new Pallastunturi nature center in Muonio will be determined later in connection with the planning.
In its supplementary budget, the government has allocated 1.6 million euros for the construction of the Pallastunturi nature center in Muonio.
Originally, Metsähallitus had to renovate Pallastunturi’s old nature center last year. However, in the planning of the renovation, it became clear that it was not reasonable to carry out the planned renovation due to the indoor air problems of the building.
Now the goal is to build a new nature center and demolish the old one.
– Thanks to the funding we have now received, we will demolish the old nature center and start planning a new nature center that is smaller than the old building and includes new operational concepts immediately, says recreation use manager Pekka Sulkava in the press release.
The exact completion time of the new nature center will be determined during planning.
The Pallastunturi nature center, built in 1977 and condemned for demolition, is one of the oldest nature centers in Finland and the Nordic countries.
Last year, 594,300 visits were made to the national park.
