The mock shop steward inquired about the strike intentions of the bus company’s employees – AKT’s lawyer: \”Can be interpreted as pressure\”

A snowy traffic landscape opens up from the passenger compartment of the bus. On the right side, in a separate picture, a woman in a yellow hoodie.
The drivers of the Lahti bus company were asked in advance about their intentions to participate in a possible AKT strike. Illustration picture.

According to AKT’s lawyer, it can also be pure ignorance of permitted actions in industrial disputes.

The bus company has asked about its employees’ strike intentions in messages sent in the name of the chief shop steward.

Lahtelainen Reissu Ruoti Oy is an unorganized employer, and the company’s payroll also does not have an employee belonging to the Automotive and Transport Workers Union (AKT), which issued a strike warning, as the main shop steward.

According to him, the survey can be interpreted as pressure from the employer, which violates the employee’s freedom of association and industrial action.

– It can also be pure ignorance, Siuru reflects.

Reissu Ruot’s CEO did not want to answer Yle’s questions about the matter.

The traditional bus company from Lahti has about 70 buses and 80 employees. There are union members, but also numerous non-union workers. In the bus industry, there is a universally binding collective agreement that also applies to unorganized workers.

Yle reached the person designated as the sender of the survey messages. He confirms that messages have been sent, but according to him, the purpose was to find out which bus routes can be run if the strike takes place.

The issue was reported first by the member newspaper AKT of the Automotive and Transport Workers’ Union.
