Karviota with its canals is presented in the regional plan of North Karelia as one of the development destinations for tourism and recreation in Heinävedi.

Heinävesi changed the province at the beginning of 2021. The draft of the regional plan of North Karelia has now been completed, which for the first time will also guide the land use of Heinävesi until 2040.

New tourism and nature destinations from Heinävesi will be added to the regional plan of North Karelia, which now includes Heinävesi for the first time.

The formula, which extends to 2040, affects land use and the financing of the sites to be developed.

Tourism and recreation will be developed in the area, which includes Valamo and Lintula monasteries, the Karvio region with its canals, and the entire northern part of the Heinävesi route.

Among the regional roads, Sarvikummuntie is considered to be the most urgent to repair in the draft plan, which is also important for tourism.

As a third new thing, four rivers are presented as valuable natural sites, which are: Heinäjoki, Kytöjoki-Somerjoki, Petrumanjoki and Jyrkylinjoki.

Two nesting areas of the Saimaa hornbill, namely Pytärävesi and Kinkolahti, are also nominated as a valuable natural site. There are already three similar norppa areas in the regional plan of North Karelia, they are located in Rääkkylä and Kitee.

A valuable natural site does not mean protection, but the designation must be taken into account in the municipality’s land use planning.

– In that sense, the marking is good for the land owner, that if they want to build on the beach and could not build because of the nesting area of \u200b\u200bthe norpa, then the question of compensation will also be included in the discussion, Pitkänen points out.

The draft is available until the end of January

In terms of cultural environments, three new sites from Heinävedi are presented in the plan, which represent modern building heritage and are listed in the inventories.

These are the whole of the Heinävesi municipal hall and fire station, the Karvio parish home and the Karvio health building.

The plan draft of the second phase of the North Karelia provincial plan has already been approved by the provincial government.

The draft can be viewed publicly until the end of January. The goal is for the North Karelia regional council to confirm the formula by the end of the year.

The provincial government has also made a decision in principle to start the third phase of the provincial plan.

The main themes are electricity transmission networks such as the need for a 400 kilovolt connection between Kontiolahti and Sotkamo and the production of renewable energy, especially wind and solar parks.

Landscape and groundwater areas as well as areas with mineral potential are also included.
