The flight path plan is located in the Helsinki, Vantaa, Tuusula and Kerava areas. According to Lentorata oy, the new alignment is justified on technical, economic and traffic grounds.

The previously planned rail link to the capital region, the air route, is now being promoted under a new route option. According to Lentorata Oy, the new line would already connect to the main line south of Kerava at Jäspilä.

Flight path refers to the planned rail link from Pasila via Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Kerava. The line would allow faster train connections and direct long-distance train connections to the airport. The line would also provide additional tracks on the congested Pasila-Kerava route and allow an increase in train services.

According to the airline, there are technical, economic and traffic reasons for the new alignment.

The new policy shortens the planned train track by about five kilometers and the tunnel section about four kilometers, which means that the total line of the aircraft will be reduced from 30 kilometers to 25 kilometers and the track tunnel section from 28 kilometers to 24 kilometers.

Reduction of the tunnel section would provide an estimated cost savings of EUR 0.4 billion, or EUR 400 million, compared to the pre -study option. The amount of quarry generated would also decrease.

The new option also allows you to connect from Kerava station to the airway.

Various options for general planning

The general design has explored different options for how to join the main track and the Lahti straight track in Kerava.

The interface according to the pre -study phase was located in Kytömaa, north of Kerava. However, it was found to implement it with significant technical and traffic problems due to existing rail infrastructure and land use.

Different options for Kytömaa’s connection were also explored in the Kytömaa area, between Kerava station and Kytömaa, and south of Kerava station. In the review, the alternative to the alignment of the airway is already related to the main line south of Kerava in Jäspilä.

The planning of the flight path is now continuing according to the new alignment option. The master plan is expected to be completed in early 2026. After that, a course plan is drawn up, which will take about two years.

The Transport and Communications Agency Traficom approves the general and track plan before the project can proceed to the construction phase. Construction also requires financing decisions.
