Leena Vilka’s column: Spirituality is the megatrend of the future

I think that in the hectic workday, a person needs time and space to calm down in order to feel well. Spirituality and spirituality promote human well-being, writes Vilkka.

In my opinion, an economy based on material consumption and growth is at the end of the road. Today’s people are already at home in the Danish model and downshifting to the American style. We want to break free from the squirrel wheel of working life and consumption, and today’s young people value their own time and a meaningful life.

Some is filled with different mental and spiritual groups. The spiritual connection with nature and animals is also on the rise. In the midst of wars and crises caused by humans, nature is seen as a pacifier of peace, providing security in the uncertainty of life.

The non-religious are the largest group after Christians and Muslims. Who are the non-religious? Not belonging to a church still does not say anything about the state of a person’s spirituality.

Many of my friends say they believe in a higher power, but not in the way the church teaches. In his opinion, even an atheist can seek spiritual well-being, even if he does not feel the need to manifest spirituality.

I know what it’s like to be an atheist because I’ve tried to be one myself, albeit with little success. I have also waded through world religions and especially like Jainism, the doctrine of respecting life.

In the story of the Bible, after the flood, God makes a covenant with all creatures and created an arch in the sky as a sign of it (Genesis 9:11-17). Under the rainbow we are all the same, created, equal in value.

I feel that the spiritual connection with nature and animals is a characteristic built into me. I call it ecological sensitivity, which I think is a form of sensitivity as well as many sensory sensitivities. I feel that I am ecologically sensitive, that is, I strongly sense the changes in nature and the destruction of nature and the suffering of animals. I am equally sensitive to the beauty and sanctity of nature as well as other values \u200b\u200band meanings such as the sovereignty of nature and the rights of animals.

Ecologically sensitive people like me long for the peace of nature and animal friends. Those hypersensitive to sound long for quiet retreats, those sensitive to smells long for areas free of cosmetics. Maybe in the end it’s not about special sensitivities, but about a new normal, ecological way of life.

In the cities of the future, people’s mental and spiritual needs will be taken into account. A person is a spiritual and physical entity, inevitably. At least I feel that I am a strongly spiritual being, with a longing for the afterlife and divinity. Exposing humanity to many kinds of natural destruction and animal suffering has been completely unreasonable. In the future, we will live more ecologically and spiritually, that’s what I want to believe.
