Airbnb law could allow up to half a year of unlimited short rent in an investment home

The draft law shows that the municipality could not completely prohibit short rent. According to researchers, the law would specifically seek to enable short rent.

The spring municipal elections can even be called Airbnb elections in Rovaniemi.

The government intends to change the construction law so that short rental of an investment home or a so -called second home would be allowed for 90 days, or about three months a year.

However, the municipality may make an exception.

According to the draft government proposal, the municipality could allow short rent for a maximum of 180 days a year in its construction order. It would easily cover the entire tourist season in Rovaniemi.

The building order is decided by the municipal council, that is, the last word would now say that the municipal councilors complained about in the elections.

However, the 90 days already planned would cover Rovaniemi’s hottest season in December-February.

Airbnb is a hot potato, especially in Rovaniemi, and that is why the law has even been described as Lex Rovaniemi’s short rent.

The municipality could not intervene in disturbances

For example, the municipality would not continue to prohibit short rent in the municipality.

Your own home, reported as a permanent home, could be short rent without daily limits.

– In practice, it removes the authorities the opportunity to interfere with disturbing activities, for example, if a person lives in a detached house and is engaged in short -term rental, Päläs says.

The same would apply to short rent for investment dwellings if it is done within the daily limits. Thus, within the framework of the daily limits, business activities would also be allowed to rent several homes professionally.

However, according to Pälä, the proposal is, in part, unclear of the permissibility of legal persons, such as companies, such as companies.

Loose regulation

– I would see that it is more thought that short rental is made and not so much limited, says Hakkarainen.

At present, however, the draft government’s proposal is only in the consultation round, so nothing has been locked up for it.

Last year, the government’s plans for short rental regulation were canceled due to criticism given in the consultation.
