The strike that started overnight will soon be visible on bread shelves, says the Vaasan chief shop steward
Two thousand workers in the bakery sector are affected by industrial action. The strike will last for the rest of the week.
The overnight strike in the bakery sector is likely to affect the availability of bread in shops as early as tomorrow.
– Today you will probably find our bread in the shops, but tomorrow it will probably be more limited,” he says.
– These are the two biggest players in the bakery sector in Finland and there will certainly be shortages in their products.
“The range is shrinking”, says the bakery boss
The strike applies to two thousand bakery workers in 150 bakeries across Finland. In addition to the Vaasa bakery, the strike includes employees of Fazer and Lantmännen Unibake.
The strike is covered by all shifts that start on Tuesday 11 March and Sunday 16 March.
– We make fresh products that are baked every day, so strikes have an impact on the availability of products. We do our best to continue production, at least in part during the strike, but the range is likely to be reduced, Bergholm says by email.
The loss of Yösatasen is a blow
According to Päivi Lempinen, the work dispute is at the heart of the bakery law, the so -called Night Satanen, the double salary paid for night work.
According to Lempinen, the employer will pay it until the new collective agreement has been negotiated. It is not in the new agreement.
– If we want it there, we should weaken other things in the contract. In addition to the double salary, the working time flexibility of the employer is rubbing, he says.
According to Lempinen, the industry is already suffering from low basic salary and the fact that the industry is not seen as attractive if the terms of the work are weakened.
\”It’s not accepted,\” he says.
– The goal of the strike is to get the employer weakening proposals out of the negotiating table and future possible reconciliation proposals, Kuntonen says.
On Monday, the employee side, the Finnish Association for Food Workers, rejected the reconciliation proposal made by the national mediator. The night work allowance would have been brought to the collective agreement, but according to the union, the problems were especially the working time entries and the general level of wage increases.
