Panu builds the ocean platform of his dreams in a tent
Panu Heinonen has designed a 15 -meter -long sail boat mainly. The goal is to live in the boat and see the world. First the boat needs to be built.
Nowadays, fewer and fewer build their own boats.
In recent years, self -built sailboats have been registered in Finland every year from one to two. Even in 2018-2020, self -made sailboats were registered from four to six a year.
More motor boats are being built, but the number has been halved in less than ten years. Last year, 39 self -made motor boats were registered in Finland.
There is a bite in front of the tent door. When peeking inside, you first see a rim saw and a plane. The more is a 15 -meter -long wooden sailboat body, which is not ready yet. Its bottom is toward the ceiling.
Panu Heinonen has a \”informal goal\” to get to all continents to snowboard.
– I am fascinated by world tourism. Not so much sailing around the world itself, but the whole lifestyle in the water and at sea, he says.
Heinonen is an architect and entrepreneur by profession. Currently, he is doing his day job in a booth he has built in the corner of his boat workshop.
The 3D presentation below is made by Panu Heinonen.
Years have passed. The captain’s beard has become more measure and a few gray.
As the contract progresses, Heinonen has gained more certainty for his performance. It is clearly reflected in videos uploaded online.
The goal has become brightened.
-The children have grown up and soon the other is of legal age. As such, I’m free, but I have no hurry with this job.
Unique boat
There are sailboats in the world with a cover salon. There are also boats in the world with rare rotating carbon fiber masts.
The boat with both of these is known to be known. Yet.
Heinonen says he has chosen a special mast solution, as the mast is durable and more secure. This type of boat will also be easier to sail alone when needed.
The boat’s lounge can be seen unhindered. This differs from traditional sailboats where the interior is usually placed deep under the lid.
– If I go to the world now and go to the finest places in the world, I don’t want to live in the basement of the boat, Heinonen says.
The details of the technology and interior are more specified as the construction progresses. The solutions are contributed to how technology will develop in the coming years.
For example, battery technology is developing very quickly right now. It is challenging to anticipate what kind of batteries he could get for the boat in a few years.
Heinonen plans to put electric motors on the boat. It is still uncertain whether he needs a diesel generator to help generate electricity. Time to show.
Heinonen has not lowered the exact budget on his boat. He thinks that it will eventually cost around € 100,000.
Community
Panu Heinonen documents the project stages in YouTube videos.
Those interested in building a boat have formed an online community around Heinonen’s work. People share ideas about boat drawings and the implementation of different components. The community is also generally discussed about living in the boat.
Panu Heinonen’s boat construction contract can be followed on YouTube on the site: Arctic Seacamel.
